The Mission Viejo, Calif.-based Hass Avocado Board (HAB) plans to continue driving demand under its “Avocados — Love One Today” campaign this fall by connecting with health professionals and consumers, says Emiliano Escobedo, executive director.
“We’ll be engaging directly with the health professionals’ community at key conferences, including the International Plant-Based Nutrition Healthcare, Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists and American College of Lifestyle Medicine, highlighting the benefits of avocados to support food recommendation to their patients/clients,” he says.
Advertising, influencer partnerships and digital marketing efforts will focus on several topics, including:
- Kids’ nutrition to emphasize the importance of establishing healthy habits early.
- Cognition to support healthy aging.
- Gut health.
- Type 2 diabetes management.
All the efforts work together to “reinforce the science-backed benefits of avocados and inspire Americans to make them a part of everyday healthy living,” Escobedo says.
HAB also announced the release of some new research. A study from Landmark Trial suggests that eating an avocado every day might positively impact sleep, which is a key factor in cardiovascular health. Researchers found adults who consumed one avocado daily for six months reported better sleep compared to those who ate fewer than two avocados per month.
“Sleep is emerging as a key lifestyle factor in heart health, and this study invites us to consider how nutrition — and foods like avocado — can play a role in improving it,” Kristina Petersen, study author and associate professor of nutritional sciences at Penn State University, says in a news release.
Another study found that snacking on an avocado at night might promote healthier triglyceride metabolism the next morning.
“Our findings suggest that avocado’s unique nutrient package, its whole-food matrix, may further support heart health by encouraging healthier triglyceride metabolism,” Britt Burton-Freeman, study author and professor and chair of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at Illinois Institute of Technology, says in a news release.
