Atemoya is a heart-shaped or conical tropical fruit that can range from 8 to 12 inches long. It has pale green, bumpy skin that lightens as it matures. Because of its sweet flavor, it is most often consumed as a dessert. Like its relative the cherimoya, the fruit can also be used in milkshakes; its tropical taste blends creamy vanilla with pineapple flavors. The pulp is creamy white, slightly juicy and pudding-sweet with dark seeds. Do not eat the seeds. It’s available from Florida in late August to October, with smaller quantities possibly available through January.
