Sixty-five Walgreens locations in the Chicago area are now carrying Home Chef Express meal kits.
During the pilot program, the stores will carry three kit options, with recipes switching bi-weekly, according to a news release.
The meals serve two, and pricing starts at $8.50 per serving. The kits can be ready to eat in 15 minutes.
Robert Clark, senior vice president of merchandising for Kroger, which recently acquired Home Chef, said the kits have been successful in the grocery store space already.
“Customers have responded favorably to the retail meal kits at our Mariano’s stores in the market and other (Kroger banner stores) located in different cities,” Clark said in the release. “The Walgreens expansion provides more Chicagoans convenient access to a quick, simple meal.”
Recipes shown in the photos accompanying the release include Chicken Piccata with penne pasta and sautéed kale; Acapulco Beef Skillet with cheese and sour cream; and Steak Fajitas with cheese and sour cream.
