Earthbound Farm debuts new blends

by Ashley Nickle, Oct 10, 2018

San Juan Bautista, Calif.-based Earthbound Farm plans to introduce three new organic lettuce blends at Fresh Summit next week — Rosé, Mighty Spinach and Red Baby Butter.

Rosé Blend combines lolla rosa, red oak, red tango, red baby butter and radicchio for a mix similar to spring mix but with “slightly sturdier leaves” and more crunch, according to a news release. Might Spinach Blend contains spinach, bok choy, pak choi and tat soi and can be used in a salad, smoothie or in sautéed or braised dishes.

Red Baby Butter Blend has a red blush, crisper texture than mature butter lettuce, and bite-sized leaves.

The blends come in 5-ounce clamshells and have a suggested retail price of $3.99.

“We love delicious organic food — especially veggies and greens,” Nathalie Fontanilla, vice president of marketing, research and innovation said in the release. “It is why Earthbound Farm tinkers and explores as we develop new organic products. But, even more important than that, we listen to the people who are buying our products. What do they want? What would make their lives simpler and tastier?”

The company will also be showcasing additions to its line of commodity vegetables, including baby bok choy and cabbage.

“We want to make it simple and satisfying for our customers to have a high-quality, well-rounded organic produce program that delivers what their shoppers are seeking — fresh organic produce that goes beyond the ordinary,” Tim Youmans, vice president of commodities and national accounts, said in the release.

Earthbound will be exhibiting at booth 4043.
