For the seventh consecutive year, Aldi is donating a minimum of $1 million to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), reaffirming its commitment to fighting childhood cancer and investing in children’s health and wellness.
Since 2019, Aldi has partnered with ALSF to help accelerate vital pediatric cancer research and support families in need, according to a news release. Now, the impact of this partnership is growing faster than expected. Aldi committed to a $10 million fundraising goal in 2022, originally set to be reached by the end of 2027. However, Aldi is now on track to achieve this milestone by 2026, a full year ahead of schedule, thanks to the passion and generosity of Aldi employees and supplier partners, the release said.
“At Aldi, we’re focused on making a lasting impact on the issues that matter most to our communities,” said Dave Rinaldo, chief operating officer for Aldi U.S. “The heartfelt engagement from our Aldi teams and supplier partners across the country has been invaluable, and it’s because of their efforts that we’re expected to reach our fundraising goal one year early. Together, we’re fueling life-changing research and helping families navigate the challenges of childhood cancer, one cup of lemonade at a time.”
Alexandra “Alex” Scott was just 4 years old when she began selling lemonade to raise money for kids, just like her, battling cancer. What started as one small stand sparked a national movement. Today, ALSF is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. and Canada, the release said.
ALSF has raised over $300 million since 2005 and funded over 1,500 medical research grants. With the support of partners like Aldi, ALSF helped push the number of childhood cancer survivors in the U.S. to over 500,000 and contributed to today’s 85% survival rate, the release said.
Aldi is once again inviting Aldi shoppers to support ALSF during Lemonade Days, by:
- Hosting a lemonade stand to donate proceeds to ALSF. Fill your neighbor’s cups and help raise funds for ALSF by purchasing lemon-themed Aldi Finds on shelves June 11, including a juice press, beverage dispenser, sugar-free lemonade and more for your own stand.
- Buying a limited-time reusable Aldi x ALSF bag. Spread awareness for ALSF with a reusable bag featuring artwork from an Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Hero, part of a special program designed to support siblings of children with cancer and those who are cancer survivors.
- Donating directly to the cause online. Contribute directly to ALSF, supporting its impactful research in over 240 clinical trials each year, which help families across the country who are affected by childhood cancer.
“Aldi has been a valuable partner since 2019, and their support has helped us take steps toward achieving Alex’s dream to cure childhood cancer,” said Liz Scott, co-executive director of ALSF and Alex’s mother. “Partners like Aldi play an important role in the progress we’ve made toward our goal to raise $500 million to fund pediatric cancer research and make impacted families’ lives easier in the process.”
