Outer bark of sugar cane is brown, and the flesh is white with a juicy, chewy, sweet texture. Stalks can reach 2 inches in diameter. Sugar cane is most often made into sugar, but it can be eaten raw after peeling off the outer bark. Sugar cane is available year-round from California, Hawaii and a variety of other markets.
