WP Rawl donates produce for free farmers market
South Carolina School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties has teamed up with Pelion-based WP Rawl to host a free farmers market with fresh vegetables grown by the greens company.
The farmers market benefits families in need in Irmo, S.C, according to a news release.
Once a week each family receives a bag of a variety of fresh produce, according to the release. In addition, families are provided recipe cards with instructions for how to prepare the produce. WP Rawl has donated cucumbers, collards, sweet corn, squash and tomatoes.
“As a district, we know that there are needs in our community and that continues during the summer months when school is not in session,” Todd Bedenbaugh, the district director of student nutrition, said in the release. “We are grateful to WP Rawl & Sons for providing the produce because we know our families in need will benefit from this effort.”
The farmers market gave nearly 100 bags of produce to families in the first two weeks of opening, according to the release.
