USDA seeks comments on assessments for avocados, kiwi, passion fruit
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has evaluated pests associated with each commodity in each country to determine the risk of introduction to the U.S., according to a news release. Comments are due Sept. 9 and can be submitted to [email protected]
Currently, avocado imports to the U.S. are dominated by Mexico, which has roughly 90% share over the last four years, according to the USDA’s Economic Research Service.
Kiwi imports over the same time frame have been split mainly between Italy (36%), Chile (35%) and New Zealand (25%). Data was not available for passion fruit.
