Thomas Fresh releases new Alberta grown potatoes
Thomas Fresh, Calgary, Alberta, has launched a new line of potatoes exclusively grown in Alberta.
“We have been bringing Canadian potatoes to market for decades, but recently we’ve highlighted an ongoing need for shoppers to buy local on a more centralized level,” Roy Hinchey, CEO of Thomas Fresh, said in a news release. “Consumers are looking to take the idea of ‘locally sourced’ a step further by directly supporting the provinces they reside in.”
Research suggests 96% of shoppers buy local products to support neighboring growers and 87% believe buying local is important to environmental sustainability, according to the release.
“We know that the marketplace wants local, however quality and availability of product is integral,” Hinchey said. “With our Alberta potatoes we have united local with premium quality in a great-looking product that is readily accessible.”
Alberta potato bags highlight the history of Alberta heritage with cowboys on a prairie landscape, according to the release.
“Potatoes have been grown in Alberta since the first settlers arrived and were essential in our province’s growth in the foundational years,” Andrea Dubak, marketing specialist at Thomas Fresh, said in the release. “This vegetable is part of our identity as Albertans and we are honored to highlight this connection.”
Alberta potatoes are available in 5- and 10-pound bags of yellow, white, red and russet.
