Stemilt's Rave apple kicks off Washington's 2019 crop
The Rave apple has made its way across the packing lines of Stemilt Growers in Wenatchee, Wash., kicking off the state’s 2019 apple crop.
Stemilt adopted Rave, a cross between Honeycrisp and MonArk, a variety from Arkansas, and has the exclusive rights to grow and market it in North America, according to a news release.
This is the third year the Rave has been available nationwide, and Stemilt anticipates the largest crop yet.
Stemilt also has the exclusive rights to grow Pinata and SweeTango apples.
Rave originated at the University of Minnesota through natural cross-pollination. It was developed by the same breeding program that developed Honeycrisp and SweeTango.
