Sip, Bite and Turn up the Pink raises breast cancer awareness, funds

D’Arrigo of California, Salinas, and J. McFarland Wines united to host the second annual Sip, Bite and Turn up the Pink, raising more than $5,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The event, Oct. 2 at the D’Arrigo headquarters, came about from the efforts of Claudia Pizarro-Villalobos, director of marketing and culinary at D’Arrigo, and Stephanie McFarland, owner of McFarland Wines. Both companies have supported the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, with D’Arrigo California donating more than $1.85 million over the past two decades, according to a news release.

D’Arrigo California features the foundation’s pink ribbon logo on its Andy Boy packaging and the wine company features it on Prismatic White Wine Blend.

“In addition, we have the (pink ribbon) logo on all our Andy Boy promotional items and cartons to raise awareness and underscore that the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables help maintain a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle,” Pizarro-Villalobos said in the release.

Other wine companies participated, along with area chefs, for the strolling wine and food event.
