PHOTOS: Winners of the Idaho Potato Display Contest
The Idaho Potato Commission has announced the winners of its 29th annual display contest, which drew entries from across the country and rewarded produce retail professionals with cash and prizes worth more than $150,000.
Each category (1-5 cash registers, 6-9 registers, 10-plus registers) had five winners, with first place receiving $1,500, second place $1,000, third place $750, fourth place $500 and fifth place $250. Honorable mentions received $100.
In addition, a category manager match program added equivalent prizes for category managers whose stores won prizes, according to a news release. All entries received a free Gourmia ExpressPot. The Idaho Potato Commission also did a sweepstakes drawing for an $8,800 trip for two to Rome or the cash equivalent.
That prize went to Jazlin Sprague, who was the produce manager for Fareway Meat & Grocery in Adel, Iowa. That store's category manager will also receive a Rome trip for two, or the cash equivalent, as part of the category manager match program, according to the release.
The Idaho Potato Commission also sponsored a display contest for military commissaries, with two winners per sales band group. First-place winners received $300 in commissary gift cards, while second-place winners received $150.
