Music City: 2018 watermelon convention hits high note

Attendees of the 2018 National Watermelon Association Convention in Nashville were treated to unique Nashville experiences, with planners integrating the city’s brand throughout the event.

The Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp. is recognizing the NWA’s efforts, naming the watermelon group as the 2018 Music City Brand Champion. Events/meetings that incorporate the Music City brand into promotional and marketing materials and efforts are considered for the annual recognition.

“Numerous meeting planners embraced the Brand Champion program in 2018 by successfully integrating the Music City Brand into their convention and event materials and programming,” Butch Spyridon, president of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp., said in a news release. “The 2018 finalists all utilized the brand in clever ways. The National Watermelon Association, however, raised the bar and created a multi-layer program that stood out above the competition.”

The NWA created a website and mobile app for the convention and loaded the schedule with a reception at the Wildhorse Saloon, an event with Nashville singer-songwriters, an evening at the Grand Ole Opry and other events.

“The National Watermelon Association is thankful and proud to be honored as the 2018
Music City Brand Champion,” according to the release. “We strive to make a positive difference in the business and livelihoods of our members every day.”
