Melissa’s showcases fresh-cut jackfruit
The company is currently verifying shelf life but expects to have the product available by the end of the year, if not much sooner.
World Variety Produce, which markets under the Melissa’s brand, started developing the item a couple of years ago when a shopper reached out and expressed interest in a fresh-cut option.
“A lot of people are intimidated by the big jackfruit – they’re like, ‘What do I do with this fruit?’” said company representative Carlos Preciado. “Everybody that tastes it, they want it, but it’s just so much work, so much work to get that fruit out, so what we’re doing is trying to get it ready, in consumers’ hands so they can just grab and go.”
