Maine Farmers Exchange touts state’s advantage

Maine possesses unique qualities that enhance the state’s potato crop.

One of the strengths of Maine potatoes are the state’s soils rich with organic matter that give great taste to the state’s potatoes, said Bob Davis, president of the Maine Farmers Exchange, Presque Isle.

“I’ve always felt that the history of our soils is the thing that distinguishes us and gives us flavor,” he said, recalling an earlier advertising program for the state touting the “Maine difference.” The state also has rich water resources, both from rainfall and an underground aquifer.
