Kwik Lok Corp. has green closure
Union Gap, Wash.-based Kwik Lok Corp. has introduced the Eco-Lok bag closure, said Karen Reed, marketing and communications director.
The closure is made with renewable starch from potatoes and corn called NuPlastiq and decreases the greenhouse gas impact by up to 20%, Reed said, adding that it also decreases the use of petroleum-based product by as much as 20%.
“When paired with a Tater Made bag made from the same Nuplastiq material, it makes for a much more sustainable package,” Reed said. “Sustainable options are something consumers are really pushing for and, therefore, our customers are very interested in this solution.”
Kwik Lok launched the Eco-Lok with its bakery customers first and, over the summer, moved it into produce, Reed said.
The new product was featured at the Produce Marketing Association’s annual Fresh Summit, Oct. 17-19 in Anaheim, Calif., and will appear at the Potato Expo Jan. 14-15 in Las Vegas.
