Fyffes donates bananas to NYC fundraiser
The 5-kilometer event April 13 at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park was aimed at promoting awareness and raising funds for the fight against pancreatic cancer, according to a news release.
“We’re so appreciative of our sponsor, Fyffes, for donating fresh bananas to all our participants,” the event’s experience chairwoman, Elite Rubin, said in the release. “Funds raised through this event support critical pancreatic cancer research, as well as the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s clinical initiatives and patient services.”
Pancreatic cancer is the third-leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. with a five-year survival rate of 9%, according to the release.
Fyffes partnered with PurpleStride as part of the company’s Fuel with Fyffes initiative, which is focused on inspiring, empowering and fueling peoples’ will to create a better future.
“Fyffes is committed to recognizing and supporting community members who are inspiring change and making a difference in the lives of others,” Marion Tabard, Fyffes North America vice president of marketing, said in the release.
