Crunch Pak inks exclusive rights to Cosmic Crisp slices
The apple is receiving media attention as growers bring the first commercial crop to market.
“Cosmic Crisp is from Honeycrisp parentage and is best for snacking and other fresh applications,” Ozgur Koc, senior vice president of business and product development at Crunch Pak, said in a news release. “When we tested it, we found it made an ideal apple for slicing; we anticipate our national distribution will help further it’s growing popularity.”
The fresh-cut slices are shipping nationwide for a limited time.
“Our goal is to provide shoppers with an excellent eating experience and having the exclusive rights to new varieties with complex flavor profiles helps us meet that goal and keep the category fresh,” Koc said.
Crunch Pak also is the exclusive slicer for other apple varieties, including Smitten, Envy and Jazz.
The Cosmic Crisp, developed by Washington State University Tree Fruit Research, is grown only in Washington, with the first full harvest this fall. Proprietary Varietal Management is marketing the variety through multiple channels, including influencer outreach, tradition media and grassroots marketing, according to the release.
