Corrugated industry touts versatility, recycling with campaign
The corrugated packaging industry has chosen America Recycles Day to shine a light on a recovery rate of 96% in 2018.
A video that “celebrates the everyday delivery of corrugated cardboard packaging to consumers’ homes” was released in connection with America Recycles Day, Nov. 15.
The 96% recovery rate for old corrugated containers is driven by a surge of almost 30% in net exports and a domestic mill consumption increase of 2.8%, according to the American Forest & Paper Associa-tion.
“At a time when the recycling of materials is being questioned, we believe it’s more important than ever to remind consumers about the recycling success story of corrugated packaging,” Rachel Kenyon, vice president of the Fibre Box Association, said in a news release. “The recycling of corrugated packaging is miles ahead of any other packaging material and the industry’s prolonged and focused effort on recovery and reuse should make consumers feel good about the boxes being delivered to their doorsteps.”
In October, the association introduced a promotion program with a new tagline, “Boxes. The most ex-traordinary ordinary thing in the world,” an update to reflect market trends including e-commerce, printing technology advancements and recycling and sustainability efforts.
The tagline “highlights benefits and attributes of corrugated cardboard boxes, including their mer-chandising value, their versatility as a transport container — particularly in the new age of e-commerce, and their sustainability,” according to a news release from the association, Itasca, Ill.
The association has a new website landing page for the “extraordinary” promotion.
