EGG HARBOR CITY, N.J. — Consalo Family Farms has long used a drip irrigation system that uses computer monitoring, via sensors in the sandy soil of its blueberry crops, said company president Skip Consalo.
But March 1 marked the first season that the Consalo growers are using a cell phone application to make their fertilizing and irrigation decisions.
The fourth-generation company is headquartered in Vineland, N.J., with farms in Egg Harbor City and Hammonton, plus others in North Carolina and Mexico.
