Apio changes name to Curation Foods
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Landec Corp. has changed the name of subsidiary Apio — “celery” in Spanish — to Curation Foods.
Product lines under the Curation Foods umbrella include Eat Smart salads, packaged vegetables (including celery), Yucatan and Cabo Fresh guacamole and avocado products, Now Planting meal solutions, and O Olive Oil & Vinegar products, according to a news release.
Landec describes the name change as the last step in transforming its food business “from a fresh packaged vegetable company to a branded natural foods company.”
Landec has grown its food business from one brand to five in the past two years, focusing on products that are trendy and plant-based with clean ingredients — but that also deliver higher margins and that “exhibit less sourcing volatility than (the company’s) historical bagged produce products,” according to the release.
The company chose Curation Foods as the new name for its food business because of the careful thought given to the selection of products it offers.
“The mission of Curation Foods is to provide access to fresh, delicious, plant-based foods made from 100% clean ingredients to as many people as possible in a way that preserves and protects our planet,” Molly Hemmeter, CEO and president of Landec, said in the release.
“The Curation Foods name represents a vision and a set of values that are shared across all of our brands and throughout our entire company.”
